Williamsburg Was a Hit. What Will Tomorrow Bring?
So Many Gorgeous Destinations!
Today's tour in Williamsburg was a smashing success, despite the nonstop rain and the cold, raw air--the kind of cold, raw air that chills you to the bone. It could have put a real damper on things (yes, pun intended, of course), but when it's Garden Week in Virginia, the show must go on!
Wednesday, April 25 Garden Tour Schedule
The schedule for tomorrow's tour (Wednesday, April 25) includes:
Hampton-Newport News
Harrisonburg
Martinsville
Northern Neck
Richmond: Seminary
Virginia Beach
My mother and I are, I think, planning to drive down to Hampton tomorrow, though not necessarily to tour. We both need a midweek day of rest and relaxation during Garden Week! It is actually quite exhausting to tour and to create on a nonstop basis. It's a good reason to be exhausted, but it's also a good reason to grab a break in the action where one exists. So instead of touring tomorrow, we are hoping to check out the Marketplace, which will be set up at the Hampton-Newport News tour headquarters at First Presbyterian Church (10-5). While we're there, we'll also try to make it to the talk being presented by Ted Henifin, of the Hampton Roads Sanitation District. He will discussing a regional water recycling initiative, the SWIFT project, the goal of which is to create a sustainable groundwater supply for future gardens throughout the entire eastern Virginia region. A lofty but admirable and very interesting goal. (And according to the Guidebook, there will be an Exhibition illustrating the SWIFT project in the backyard of the Ward home, located at 801 Park Place.) After the discussion, we're planning to remain at headquarters to attend a few flower arranging demonstrations. We may then head over to the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center for “Arts and Flowers”, an exhibition that features floral arrangements that interpret some of the works of art currently being exhibited at the Arts Center. But there are all sorts of wonderful places to tour tomorrow, so I hope that our limited, lazy day schedule will not dissuade YOU from going all out and seeing as much as you can. Enjoy your day!
